Conditions and hexes expire twice as fast, but distracted skills aren't really considered a conditon or a hex....or are they? That'd be a hard one to test with any certainty.

I'm not sure about this.
In my experience, "normal" Monster Skills like Wurm Siege or Trample can be diverted, but not "special" Monster skills like Forest's Binding.

I just newly made a ranger and although I'm still learning, of all my characters, she is hands down the most fun to play. I'm used to playing Eles and I like that a ranger takes skill to do it right and you have to pay attention instead of just nuking the crap out of everything.

The ranger style that I found I like the best is the interrupt ranger. At level 14, I took a run to Drok's and used XP boosting scrolls to level her with heros and henchies to lvl 20. I capped some elites in Talus Chute, Frozen Forest, Mineral Springs and over in Ice Chasm and Grothmar Wardowns (EotN).

Seeing that I am a new ranger, I could use some good advice at this point before I get into bad habits.

I'm using the Poisonous Nevermore Flatbow (the /bonus bow) to poison mobs and/or pull enemies, in close quarters I sometimes switch to a purple Shortbow of Fortitude, and when I'm in EoTN I'll switch to a Sturdy Recurve of Charrslaying when needed.

I know that I can add mods, so any help here would be good.

For my build I have the following (I'm a ranger/mesmer): (I don't know a good way to get the images, so bear with me):
Epidemic
Chaos Storm or Cry of Frustration (I go back and forth)
Distracting Shot
Savage Shot
Apply Poison
Choking Gas
Practiced Stance (Elite)
Troll Ungent

I do NOT have the Broadhead elite yet and probably won't for a while although I'm working on it. Elites I have other than Practiced Stance are Poison Arrow, Melandru's Arrows, Prepared Shot, Barrage and Escape, so I only have those to work with.

My goal with this build is to pressure and shut down healers and casters. I have both Choking Gas and Poison as I have been fighting enemies with no flesh to poison, in that case, I use choking gas and use Epidemic to spread the love.

Any help is greatly appreciated. IGN for my ranger is Banner Woodsprite if you wanna chat. I'm always up for that.

Thanks!

At the above post...

Troll Unguent really is a wasted skill slot when you're not splitting. Regeneration only goes so far.

You don't really need Cry of Frustration, and if you're using Epidemic you might at well use Poison Tip Signet over Apply Poison, because you spread it to adjacent range, it's free and you can keep Choking Gas up in that process. Choking Gas, Distracting Shot and Savage Shot should be enough. You can use either considering the areas of the game are pre-determined. Oh, and Chaos Storm only deals minimalist damage - enemies in PvE aren't tackled by E-Denial well and it doesn't really mix with a Ranger at all.

You have made a good choice utilising all of your weapon sets, though. I suggest using *Condition* Recurve Bow of Fortitude for most applyable conditions a Ranger can use, Long / Flatbow for luring (Vampiric mod on this), and a vampiric shortbow for more close-quarters, which you should be doing for easier interrupts through better positioning.

In the case of a complete build change, I would go with the following:

[distracting shot][savage shot][burning arrow][apply poison][mending touch][natural stride][no skill][resurrection signet]

Considering you'd prefer to pressure, I'll use this degeneration based build. Mending Touch can also be used on allies, so it serves as a powerful all-around condition removal, Natural Stride aids kiting when necesary while being a base block stance. You can swap out Savage Shot for Magebane and replace the elite aswell, and doing this you gain a second powerful interrupt. Oh, and the new Incendiary Arrows is good for spreading degen.

However, degeneration isn't very effective in PvE, just throwing that out there.

Tyla,

Thanks SO much for your help. I'm adding in the changes you suggested. I have to go buy Poison Tip Signet, but no biggie. I've been eyeing that for some time and I'm glad to see someone recommend it.

I'll get the mods you suggested for my bows as well. There are so many in so many combinations that it's hard to tell what is good and what is a waste of time/money.

I was thinking about changing my secondary to monk when I went through ascension. I've seen a lot of r/mo builds on PvXwiki.

Thanks again.

Yes well done on weapon swapping, I have like 40 bows for all kinds of stuff, though I think I only use about half of them.

Collectors Bows are a cheap way to get a nice stock of Bows without spending alot of money.

Your cerainly off to a good start, GL

Random interrupts are bad.
